Typing Maniac is not really a new game but among all the games in Facebook, it is one game that never gets old. The game was developed by MetroGames and it has been one of their most successful games to date.Gameplay
The game is very simple for Typing Maniac! Complete a set of words and you score. Not much instruction is needed, but you do need to know that this game is not only trying to eliminate the words offered to you as fast as possible, but also to be as accurate as possible. Power Ups will be offered to players after round 4 and from there the game gets more challenging.
During the beginning of the game, players will be provided a set of word consist of 4 letters. This is usually the easiest stage to master and rarely people can get it wrong. In order to win, player needs to complete at least 8 sets of words correctly. Sound easy? At first yes, but as soon as you advanced into the game, the challenge to complete a level will be heart pounding and full of adrenaline for any player.
First we will look at the game, for Typing Maniac the game is taken place during the night in a bookstore or a library. You as the player will be the part time intern taking care of the night shift while the store owner takes his beauty sleep. Night shift is usually dull and quiet, but not for Typing Maniac as you will need to work hard to get through the nights.
Strange boxes of word will be dropping down from the sky as you will need to use your magical typewriter (Very dinosaur device before the computer era) to eliminate it. This is where the game excitement really comes in. During the first few stages, boxes of word dropping out from the sky are very slow and easy to complete for most players, they can get perfect score for the first few rounds. However, the hard part will be presented as the player moves on from stage 5 and above as more complicated (at times make no sense) words will drop down and player will have to try their best to complete them.
Complete a set of words and the game will consider this as 1 score. However, if player fails and types the wrong words, the word itself will drop from the sky filing up in front of the intern until it overflows the intern view and the game is over.
Players will not be in a disadvantage as this game provides players with special score and power up during the game. Words consist inside a black box has higher score rates while the one in brown boxes will have the normal score rating. At times player will notice other color boxes of words drop down. This are consider power up.
Red will be considered as Fire. This power up will allow user to burn all the boxes of words to engulf in flames and be burned away in an instance. Player must take note as this will also burn up any bonus or any power up that is on the screen. Best use when you are over flooded with Words.
Blue power ups is considered to be Ice. Ice will allow to freeze up any drop down words on the screen and to stop any new one from coming down for a limited time. This is considered one of the best power ups as it will allow players to get more additional power ups and to eliminate any words threatening the intern.
Yellow scroll power ups is slow. This actually slows down the time taken for the boxes of words to reach the ground. Players must take note as slow is a stackable power up and if use two to three at the same time will allow the boxes to slow down in a rate that it looks like it is crawling on the screen.
Purple Power Ups are Wind. This will be the last power up encounter by players. In this power up players will have the options to reset the papers that pile up in front of the intern. This power up can be very useful in a life saving situation.
No matter how good you are or fast you can type, this game will be very challenging to any players. Players must note that power up comes in plentiful and players must not hesitate to use it. Furthermore players can only keep a limited sets of power ups on the rank before it will be full and no more power ups can be fill up until player used it. So do not be selfish while playing this game with power up, but keep in mind to also utilize it at the correct time.
If you are bored with the single game, you can also go into multiplayer mode where you will be challenged with other players to gain the highest score in the game. This option is provided on the main menu of the game.
Graphic
Very beautify environment that MetroGames has created. Animation is fluent and carefully drawn in the game. While you are playing you might at times notice the shop owner walking around the shop during the night with his lamp as he keeps an eye on the intern.
Sound
Typing Maniac sound is very suitable for the game. It may sound a bit weird and also a bit creepy during the starts, but the music will change as the level difficulties increases, making the player know that the speed of the game has increased and also to make the player more tensed if they make a mistake.
Other then the music, sound of typing on the typewriter and also paper falling on the grown is very well done and will either make the player more excited while hearing it or panic trying not to make too much mistakes as they try to complete the games level.
Conclusion
This game is suitable for all ages and very easy to catch up. I see kids as young as 10 able to beat up an adult in the game in just a few hours. For those who really think that their typing skills are up to the match for this game, they are always welcome to prove them right.
