Atom Blast

Atom Blast is really one of those games which I have a hard time categorizing. What it should really be? It is not a puzzle game or an arcade game, nevertheless this never stop Mabel Games to try it out. The game is developed by Glu, one of the few famous game developers in Facebook.
Gameplay
First off, we will look at the concept of Atom Blast; the game main goal is to destroy as many atoms on the screen as possible. This sound really easy and after a few minutes into the game, players of all ages can really catch the gameplay without any problems whatsoever.

Before the game starts the game will be providing players with a numbers of atoms that they need to be destroy and once the target has been set, player will be presented with a screen full of tiny atoms (from tiny white atoms to big red one that looks like bits in the movie Tron).

By clicking on the left button on the mouse once on any space of the screen will cause a small explosive reaction. Any atom that is caught within that explosion will cause a chain reaction that will continue for a few seconds. This is where the game really starts to be exciting. Players will notice that atoms around the screen will keep bouncing around the screen and if any of it bounce into the explosive radius the explosion will keep going until either the all the atoms is destroyed or the explosive effect dies off.

Once players destroyed the recommended numbers of atom, the background will light up and depending on level, the shape behind the background will be display differently.

In order not to make the game dull, the developers included various types of atoms that can be destroyed. From tiny white atoms which produce small explosion to the big red one which will cause a massive explosive effect when it explode. (You need to really discovered it yourself on how each atoms work really)

The game is very easy to accomplish and due to that a RISK feature has been included into the game to make it more exciting. RISK is the same as the normal game, but with have a more demanding requirement and reward. The more RISK you take the more numbers of atoms players need to destroy.

Graphic
This game reminds me of Tron a lot, from the background to the tiny little atoms. All atoms is made 3D model. Having like 30 atoms floating on the screen does not really slow the system down at all.

Sound
Music is very soft and hardly hears it unless you tune up your volume. Aside from the music, the explosion sound is like those 80’s MIDI sound effect which really fit the theme.

Conclusion
Till now I still cannot figure out how to categories this game. So we leave it to Action game as mention by the developers. This game is really base on your luck and a bit of observations, but it does get fun to see things explode in front of you, other than that I do not think there is much this game has to offer.

I give this game a 3 out of 5 rating.
