Raiden X

Raiden, the name know by many during the dawn of arcade gaming. This game is where player plays as a pilot to battle evil alien forces that threaten the world. The game was originally created by Seibu Kaihatsu and has been ported on a lot of platforms over the years.

Today we at Mabel Games found a Facebook version called Raiden X which has been developed by the fans and been published by Crazy Monkey Games.

Gameplay

Gameplay have not change much since the first day Raiden was created. The game is still running in a 2D side scrolling and players’ aircraft can still move all around the screen as the game progress. The one big difference that I notice in this game is the graphic parts. Gone with the days of the pixel and this is being replaced by smoother Flash texture.

The goal of the game is to fight your way through various waves of enemies from one level to the next. To help players with this, the game itself has a few surprises install. Players can upgrade their weapons as they destroy a specific target, from the traditional vulcan canon to laser canon and as a third edition, chain lighting.

To aid players in their mission against the enemy, the game also comes with sub weapon. The fighter that player fly may also be equip with either a standard conventional missile to homing missile that will track down and destroy enemy from afar.

One thing I do notice for the Flash version of Raiden is also it comes equipped with a super weapon of mass destruction (Power depending on what type of weapons player chooses). Players are equipped with at least 3 of this BOMB to wipe out anything that is on the screen. The weapon is very powerful and only advisable to be use when all else has failed or during desperate times.

Scrolling around the screen is very smooth and no lag whatsoever, players may notice that enemy comes in waves and although this is a flash version, the numbers of enemy on the screen has been tone down a bit during the first 4 levels and only during space combat the battle is buff up to a level that the whole screen be filled with enemies and gunshots that players may have a hard time to maneuvering your craft trying to survive.

There are a few things that players can configure in this game while accessing the main menu. One of the settings is the game difficulties. The game comes with 3 difficulties, depending on players’ expertise. From Easy to Hard and players can change this option in the option screen before proceeding to the gameplay.

This game was that it was build for single player only and there is no option for second player. So if you want to play with your friends, I would advice to get the emulation version instead.

Graphic

The game itself have a facelift and it now looks very “Flash” like, from the environment to the enemy, but good thing here is everything runs very smoothly. Wish they the programmer would at least make the screen bigger. It looks a bit too small especially when I am running on a 22 inch LCD.

Sound

Techno Music during the 80’s era which is epic and memorable during certain battle. Each stage has its own music theme and some are very nice that it makes you want to keep battling endless wave of enemies. Boss stage itself has its own theme songs so players will know when they fly near to a boss zone. Furthermore most of the arcade sound has been kept in this game from firing Vulcan canon to explosion. I do notice that some sound has been taken out especially the super BOMB.

Conclusion

Very good conversion if you ask me. But due to the tiny screen size, it’s hard to pay really, unless I lower my screen resolutions which I am not going to do.

Rating 3.5 out of 4 for this game.
